Unfold SCCA 2013 Portfolio Show
Experience Design, Environmental Sound Design, Composition
Environmental sound installation for the 2013 Seattle Central Creative Academy Portfolio Show. This 1/2 hour, 6 channel audio loop was played throughout the entry and hallway areas during the 2 day portfolio show. The sound was played through 6 sets of speakers and made to be loosely synchronized to create movement of sound through the space.
Audio was created using field recordings and interviews made with a Zoom H4N mobile recorder combined with iPad sounds and edited in Ableton Live. The project was created using the principals of Experience Design and supported the theme and tone of the Unfold portfolio show.
Project goals were: to help create an environment that encourages visitors to take the time to look at portfolios and interact; to help to establish a sense of place; to create movement of sound that supports the theme of Unfold.
This is a stereo mix of the 6 channel audio loop played at the portfolio show. The stereo field in this mix corresponds to the left to right placement of the speakers and approximates how sound would have moved through the space.
Created in collaboration with Ted Griffin and with the generous help and input of our classmates.
Each speaker icon represents one of the six tracks
This video was made to present the idea for environmental sound at the portfolio show. It is a visualization of how sound would move between speakers.
Audio edited and compiled in Live. The file was organized by speaker and sound type so that sound movement between speakers could be controlled.
Concept drawing of editing a single continuos sound over multiple tracks to create movement of sound through the portfolio space.
